STATEMENT

Drawing pattern from contingency, via linguistic model, I engage painted abstraction as visual language, from its phonemic bases in primary color, raw canvas and the individual drip to the phonological constellations and syntactic structures of field relationship and optical reverberance.

I use applicators and internally luminous colors to make my 'Process' series paintings. The flowing paint produces stripes, whorls and eddies, with gravity as the animator of a sinuous internal logic. A reductive, distanced process subverts itself in a realization of tactile intimacy and hallucinatory resonance.

I use the intermingled drips that fall from the ‘Process’ paintings to make drawings. The identities of these abetted accidents flicker between casual artifact and intentional narrative, with surface physicality contradicted by intimations of gnomic conscience.

My work inhabits the tensions engendered between method and chaos, lucidity and opacity, intention and the deferral of intention.
